Wedding – Michelle & Matt

I met Michelle about a year ago at the Bokeh Fashion Film Festival where she was working in PR and Marketing. We got to talking and when the subject of her wedding came up I showed her my website and spoke about my unique, documentary approach to telling the story of a couples wedding day. We stayed in touch and soon, with the date and venue confirmed, I was booked to document their big day!

They are such a cool couple these two. Having met in high school they’ve been together almost 11 years! What made the choice of venue, at the Cathedral Peak Hotel in the Drakensburg so perfect, is that when she went hiking in the surrounding mountains, Michelle used to imagine getting married at the chapel on site.

The Cathedral Peak Hotel features beautiful rooms and suites with unspoiled views of snow capped mountains, a chapel and reception venue for life’s next venture, or conference settings where you can plan that following move – whatever your next adventure. On the wedding day itself the weather really gave us a shock, dropping from 27c the day before to a maximum of 8c with rain in spots! That made the day chilly but the diffused light was a pleasure to shoot in! As cool as the weather was it didn’t dampen the days celebrations and everyone had a wonderful time!

The next morning broke sunny with blue skies with the temperature racing back up to 27c! We hopped on a helicopter and raced to catch the melting snow for a very brief, 15min portrait shoot on the mountain tops. It was the perfect end to an awesome and love filled wedding.

Michelle and Matt, thank you again for giving me the privilege of documenting your beautiful day! Here’s the day’s story from my side of the camera, as I strive to show a guests perspective of this gorgeous event.
