Joshua, the groom, stands waiting for his groomsmen before his wedding ceremony starts.
I was second shooting this wedding and was following the groom during the last few minutes before the wedding ceremony began. This location, with the doorway and strong shadows, seemed a perfect place to wait to make an image. It worked out just as I’d hoped with the groom arriving first, pausing to take a look around and in these moments I fired a few times and made several images, this one being my favourite.
Joshua’s pose makes for a great silhouette with his shadow framed perfectly. A moment of reflection that adds to the day’s documentary story. This is how I choose to shoot weddings, in true, sincere documentary style, always looking for natural moments that convey real emotion.
