This wedding resulted in me making one of my most memorable images I’ve ever captured. But first, let me tell you more about this lovely couple, Johan and Isabelle.

Johan is an experienced photographer and works at a specialist photography retail outlet. That in itself, with his experience and knowledge of photography, made it a real privilege to be asked to document his wedding day. Isabelle is a talented musician and uses her time and talent at her church as a musical director and because of this their day was filled with music.

In fact, they had an extended service which included a string quartet and several pieces by guest musicians and the church choir. They even performed a surprise number together at the end of their service!

What really stood out for me from a documentary photography perspective was their drinks and canapés reception at the spacious church grounds afterwards. This time afforded me plenty of opportunities to document the love, laughter and joy so obviously on display.

They celebrated an intimate garden lunch with close friends and family afterwards to close off a beautiful wedding day. I must say what a pleasure it was to document this day wedding. This is the environment I feel best suits by style and approach: a confident couple, very much in love just looking to have their day documented as it happens. Natural, candid and uncontrived.
